Movistar Nokia N78 Review
September 11th, 2008 | by cento_operador
1 Introduction:
N78 is a device in the Nokia N series, you might say that is a midrange model in Symbian, a point between the N81 and the N82, more complete than the first (GPS and Camera 3.2 Mpx ), but not to the extent of the second (5-Mpx camera, more RAM and accelerometer). The main novelty of this model is the inclusion of the new version of OS S60 FP2 (Feature Pack 2).
When opening the box the Nokia N78 from Movistar, as is typical for Nokia, we are on the phone with an excellent presentation, also accompanied with a headset with mini-jack 3.5 mm, data cable for connecting to your PC and a CD with applications to N-Series like Nokia PC Suite.
2nd Technical Specifications:
In terms of technical specifications include the 46 mb of RAM, which together with the processor ARM 11 369 MHz makes the terminal performance is quite good, for most tasks.
The internal memory is 76 MB and is expandable with MicroSD memory cards up to 8GB.
Although the technical specifications is not bad, have a 50% less RAM than the larger models can be a handycap the long run, especially for future launch of NGage games and applications running in general.

3rd Design and finishes:
The terminal design is based on a unibody that, in general, any device gives greater robustness and more compact finish. This is noticeable especially with the passage of time, since the tendency to loosen and cracks tend to be lower than in a slider format.
Another aspect that stands out is the theme of the keyboard, it presents a sort of rows in which are integrated without much definition keys, which can lead to mistakes when dialing or typing SMS numbers at first.
A new feature for this model is the Navi key, this is that the smooth part of the center key can move the finger on its touch pad to move around the cursor in the menus, including photos or between applications.
4th Screen / PO audio:
The Nokia N78 features a 2.4 inch TFT display 16 million colors, very similar to other Nokia handsets. The screen is pretty good, but it is rather small when watching videos, photos, etc..
As for audio quality, this is very similar to that of any Symbian model (very good), but lower than the iPhone (for example). Important recent comment that as the N series models, the Nokia N78 features an audio input jack 3.5 mm, making it compatible with most audio helmets on the market.
The phone also has among its features multimedia buttons and dual speaker on each side of the terminal, to provide a superior audio experience. The latter included the curious point that the distribution of these speakers, despite being on each side of the phone, is centrally located asymmetrically, being one in the top and the other at the bottom of the terminal so that does not distort when used without helmets.
Helmets that brings the series incorporates a control, as is common in the hulls of Nokia, since this can answer / end calls, control the volume of calls as both music player / video, one of the drawbacks is that can not move from song.
5 th House and GPS:
The Nokia N78, has a camera with a maximum resolution of 3.2 Mpx, with Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus and LED flash.
In general, the camera does its job with an acceptable quality for photos and videos on time. As in other aspects, the terminal is a step below on the top models in the series N (5Mpx and xenon flash in the case of the N82).
Photos Normal, Macro and Flash:
The GPS is similar to other terminals of the series N. In general, the synchronization of the GPS satellites without using GPRS is slow, but if you bring it up (AGPS), everything changes dramatically, giving a time synchronization 30 seconds.
Phone and battery 6th:
As with any Nokia phone the performs excellently in both call management, and quality of signal. Perhaps the format and layout of keys we can be confusing at first, but once accustomed, it offers no more difficulty.
The battery is a Li-Ion 1200 mAh (BL-6F), which the manufacturer offers a benefit of 4 hours talk time and 300 hours stand-by.
According to our tests the device performance is 12-16 hours with heavy use (mail, browsing *, calls, GPS *, photos) and about 48 hours with moderate use of the terminal.
* The use of GPS device or using it as modem provides a range of about 2-3 hours.
7th Connectivity:
On the connectivity device, it has everything you need: Bluetooth, WiFi, GPRS / UMTS. Except IrDA port, we can say that in the connectivity section is quite comprehensive.
We were pleasantly surprised by the speed of data transfer via USB, rather than that of the N82 and N95 8GB.
Perhaps another aspect that can miss the TV output is beginning to incorporate some phones such as the N95 and N82.
Applications 8th:
Nokia Maps 2.0 pre-installed navigation licensed 1 year; Share On line pre-installed, a shortcut button manager of content (bookmarks, photos, games, etc.).
This model has been the pioneer in implementing integrated FM Transmitter that allows us to pair your phone via FM to your car radio so you can for example listen to music or podcast that we have on the phone directly on the radio.
9th Pricing and availability:
The device has an official price on the Nokia website for 378 €, however, you can get subsidized by operators such as Movistar between 0 and 150 € depending on conditions.
As always with mobile terminals, there is a parallel market of phones where you can usually find the phone off for about € 100 less and the operator for about 200-250 €. Clearly much will depend on supply and demand, but it is normal if the terminal is offered by any operator, or low points, there is enough supply.
As important note is to comment on this terminal, it is currently complicated by IMEI free and X-Sim cards are not working 100%, so if you want to purchase a Movistar with the idea of releasing, not currently good idea.
10th Conclusion:
We think it is a terminal rather interesting when you consider price / performance eligible purchases. However, it seems a terminal somewhat expensive if we buy open mind, especially when compared to the N82, which cost a little more than offer us a better camera, more RAM, and the inclusion of the accelerometer output of T
