S60 5th Edition and Nokia 5800 Xpress Music officially launched

October 3rd, 2008 | by Operator

As expected, 2nd of October Tuesday was launched in London the 5th edition of the Series 60 platform Symbian and also the first terminal, known as Tube and 5800 Xpress Music which we have already said enough. The main feature of this 5th edition of the series 60 is the touch screen, which will allow management via stylus, plectrum and directly with the fingers.

The terminal 5800, comes in 3 colors (red, blue and gray) and in two versions, one with HSDPA and WI-FI and other options without high-speed connectivity. It is therefore expected that the price is around 280 € for the basic version. Regarding the technical specifications of the 5800, are basically that we had discussed including AGPS, TV out and 8GB card included, you can see all the detailed specifications on the Nokia website with flash simulations included.

The sale date for December is estimated taking advantage of the Christmas season, this coupled with a possible distribution of the terminal by one operator, the terminal can make a bestseller since it is expected that the price is 0 cost or a price below 100 €.

People SymbianpOp has already had access to a terminal and have a brief review of the terminal, which included videos of the operation (music, OVI and play). Meanwhile the people of ASA, has created a map of access to new features of the terminal interface.

After reading and watching videos on the terminal and before you have our hands on the findings and concerns are:

- The price may be an important weapon to incorporate the 5th edition of Symbian in the market and gauge the reception of the people of Nokia's touch screen. The idea of going with two versions it has seemed a good idea to adjust the price further, depending on user needs.

- The incorporation of AGPS, TV out card, 8GB of memory and other benefits, make the terminal to maintain a price / performance ratio very interesting.

- Management of touch interface (finger-friendly) seems to be acceptable on main screen, but will have to see the performance with applications 3rd edition that are not designed to operate with touch screen. If something does not like users is having to switch between the stylus and fingers. Perhaps the idea of the spike is an interesting idea.

- The browser, seems to have improved somewhat over previous versions, giving an air of the safari iphone, we could not determine yet if it allows copy & paste text.

- The music player is still in the same line as that of the third edition with some adaptations for use with your fingers. We think a more significant change would have been interesting, especially when we are talking about a terminal that is labeled Xpress Music and surely has the service comes with music.

In the subsequent we will be seeing more reviews on the terminal, I want to personally see that it is handling mail and go deeper in the management of the browser. You who do you think?
